Originally hailing from West Chester, PA, the roots of CKY stretch back up to 1992, when friends Deron Miller (vocals, guitar) and Jess Margera (drums) met in high schoolhouse mathematics course, eventually forming the mathematical group Foreign Objects together; they issued the five-song EP The Undiscovered Numbers & Colors on the Distant Recordings mark in fall 1995. By the side by side year, the two had begun cathartic less metallic element, more radio-friendly euphony below the secernate Oil, though continuing to record Foreign Objects work on the side of meat. Picking up their third live bassist, Ryan Bruni, they released deuce more than EPs, 1996's Lifeline and a 1997 self-titled one.

During recording roger Huntington Sessions for their debut full-length, the Oil trio met producer Chad I. Ginsburg (aka CIG), wHO was before long asked to join on for good as their second guitar player. This addition marked Oil's 1998 dissolution and CKY's nativity, as the guys stopped nerve-wracking to appeal to the mainstream and changed their call to Camp Kill Yourself (Henry Valentine Miller thought up the make, thought it would produce a perfect title for a repulsion moving-picture show). Demos were recorded and the quartet caught a bust when Margera's pro-skateboarding brother, Bam, was featured doing zany acts on the video Jump Off a Building, which featured a strain ("Book of Genesis 12a") from CKY. Bam was offered to do other videos and called upon his brother's band to supply the soundtracks -- resulting in the release of the 1999's Camp Kill Yourself, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, which included all the songs from the videos.

Summer camp Kill Yourself appeared as portion of the 1999 Warped Tour, though they were kicked off near the destruction afterward connection a fan-generated protestation of tour of duty vending prices. The band had also sign with Volcom, reissued Summer camp Kill Yourself, Vol. 1 with unlike nontextual matter, and officially changed their name to CKY (straightaway neutering their original decisiveness of Camp) on the request of Volcom by the number 1 half of 2000. In February, they dismissed Bruni, discomfited in his performance, and sign up bassist Vern Zaborowski in his lieu in meter for the summer's Warped Tour, likewise issue a limited variant EP, Disengage the Simulator. CKY's songs ingest besides been featured on the popular MTV show up Fathead (which conspicuously featured unspoilt ol' Bam), and in 2001, both volumes of Bivouac Kill Yourself were reissued, just as the mathematical group was sign to Def Jam/Island.

When the Pass through Destroy Rebuild LP appeared in September 2002, CKY tested to support it as the opening act for Axl Rose's reconstituted Guns N' Roses. Naturally, that enlistment self-destructed most like a shot. But CKY carried on, and Infiltrate's heavy alt-metal sound helped distance them (fairly) from existence simply a "skate" circle. The DVD Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild: The Video Album appeared in November 2003. Zaborowski exited the isthmus in mid-2004 during roger Sessions for their third album and (as what happened when Bruni left field earlier) Ginsburg handled bass until a replacement was constitute.

CKY returned in June 2005 with An Answer Can Be Found, unflagging in their self-promotional tittup -- Miller exhausted a great deal of the run up to the record notice Internet messages about his band's come awesomeness. Around the like time, they as well revealed their newest member, ex-All That Remains bassist Matt Deis, world Health Organization likewise became the first bass participant to assist in songwriting. Touring ensued in support of the record, though CKY and Island parted shipway in early 2006; the guys inked a handle with Roadrunner by the year's end.
